OKLAHOMA CITY - Tony Parker is dinged up again, and his status is unclear heading into the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. Cheap MLB Jerseys Nike 2020 . The San Antonio Spurs All-Star point guard did not play in the second half or overtime of the Western Conference finals-clinching win over Oklahoma City on Saturday because of a sore left ankle. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich doesnt know what shape Parker will be in for Game 1 on Thursday in San Antonio. "I have no idea," Popovich said Saturday night. "I dont know what the deal is." Popovich said Parker sprained the ankle in Game 4 and aggravated it in Game 5. Popovich considered starting Manu Ginobili at point guard in Game 6 against the Thunder because Parker was having trouble during pregame. At halftime, Popovich made the decision to hold him out. "He came to me about eight minutes on the clock (before the second half) and said he couldnt go," Popovich said. "He couldnt cut. He was limping on it. He couldnt cut sideways or forward really." Popovich said he thought playing Parker in the second half would have hurt the team in the long term. "I didnt want him to be a hero because he was 50 per cent or less, we thought," Popovich said. "Thats probably bad for the team if you think about it. It was a tough decision to try to figure out whether to play him, and if you lose the game and it affects him for Monday night, then youre going to feel like you made an unwise choice." Parker has been plagued by injuries this year. He averaged 16.7 points and 5.7 assists while shooting 50 per cent from the field during the regular season, but he missed 22 games. He strained his left hamstring in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals against Portland and did not return. The Spurs won that game easily to clinch the series. Once again, his teammates bought him some rest. Had the Spurs lost Game 6, they would have faced an elimination game at home Monday against the Thunder. "We didnt know how much Tony was hurt in his ankle," forward Boris Diaw said. "But we didnt want to go to Game 7, and we didnt know if he would be ready to play if we did or if he would be 100 per cent, so we tried to get it over with tonight." Still, the Spurs have proven all season they can win without key players, posting the NBAs best record despite a series of injuries. "We have to continue to play basketball regardless of who is on the floor and our reserves did a great job - Cory (Joseph), Patty (Mills) - they stepped in and continued to run the offence and push the pace and playing good defence on their guards as well," guard Danny Green said. Joseph started the second half of Game 6 against Oklahoma City and helped engineer a 37-point third quarter. "Cory was very good," Ginobili said. "I mean, its hard to play when you dont have many opportunities to play in close games and stuff. But he did very well in Game 3 and 4 here. He always brings the juice, aggressiveness, competitiveness. He attacks the rim well. I think he made a few key plays." The Spurs said they excel without their stars because they are about a system, rather than individuals. "We have been doing what we did the whole year, which is passing the ball to each other, getting some movement, getting pace and getting into a good rhythm," Diaw said. "Always trying to set up a good shot for a teammate." A little more than one year after missing a last-second tip-in that would have given the Wolverines a share of the Big Ten regular-season title, the 6-foot-8 forward scored on a layup with 7.RENTON, Wash. - When Michael Bennett decided to sign with Seattle during the 2013 off-season, part of the attraction was the idea that hed no longer be asked to play nearly every down and wouldnt be worn out by the end of the season.Last season, thats almost exactly how it played out for Bennett and the rest of Seattles defensive line. This season, not so much.Bennett, Cliff Avril and the rest of Seattles front four have seen their snap counts increase significantly this season and especially in the past three weeks. The rotation Seattle used with such effectiveness in its run to the Super Bowl has been reduced.Thats just how it is, Bennett said. It doesnt bother me. Im just moving around a lot and trying to make as many plays as I can. I was telling somebody the other day, on this team, statistically you will never be at the top of any position like you want. You wont have the most interceptions, you wont have the most tackles, and youll just be on a really good defence that will play for each other. I think thats what is so special about this team.Seattle is on a run of defensive success that has been rare in the NFL in recent seasons. The Seahawks have allowed just 507 total yards in the past three games, fourth-fewest since 2006. But with those lockdown performances against Arizona, San Francisco and Philadelphia has come an increased workload for Bennett, Avril and others.Bennett played 98 per cent of the defensive snaps against Arizona, 81 per cent against San Francisco and 93 per cent against the Eagles. Bruce Irvin played every snap against both Arizona and San Francisco before playing 30 of 46 against the Eagles. Avril has played att least 75 per cent of the snaps in each of the last three games. We have rotations in mind but we only had 46 plays last week so we were fortunate in that sense. Nobody was overplayed there.Last season, no Seattle defensive lineman played more than 60.6 per cent of his possible defensive snaps, according to STATS. Bennett was in on 57.4 per cent of the defensive plays. Avril was in for 56 per cent of the snaps. So why the dramatic increase this season?Much of it is related to Seattles depth. Chris Clemons, who led Seattles defensive linemen in percentage of snaps last season, is now in Jacksonville. So is defensive end Red Bryant, while pass rush defensive tackle Clinton McDonald went to Tampa Bay.The other factor is injuries. Seattle had high hopes for what rookie Cassius Marsh and third-year defensive lineman Greg Scruggs could add to the rotation up front, only to see both end up on injured reserve. Brandon Mebanes torn hamstring that ended his season also created more disruption on the line. Each week it depends a little bit, Seattle defensive co-ordinator Dan Quinn said. I think we know sometimes were at our best when were able to get more guys but if we have to play Mike and Cliff more for us to do that, theyre prepared to do that as well.NOTES: C Max Unger (ankle/knee) was limited in practice Friday and is likely still a week away. He is doubtful for Sunday. ... TE Cooper Helfet (ankle) is questionable after missing the last two games. ' ' '
