LANDOVER, Md. - The Philadelphia Eagles have proved themselves to be a mirage, a team that got away with its faults until it couldnt any longer. Leaders in the NFC East as recently as a week ago, theyre now just about done in the playoff race, and theyre in no position to argue that they deserve any better.Penalties, missed field goals, two more turnovers by Mark Sanchez and an inability to keep track of former teammate DeSean Jackson turned into a 27-24 loss to the lowly Washington Redskins on Saturday night, the Eagles third straight defeat and one that gives Dallas two chances to clinch the NFC East. Were currently minus-9 in the turnover margin, so us having nine wins is really impressive for that, said safety Malcolm Jenkins, echoing the mood of a locker room hit with a communal reality check. And really we were on borrowed time playing that style of football. If we had run the table in December with that kind of football, it would have been surprising, and its something we didnt fix.Sanchezs interception with 1:31 remaining — his 13th turnover in seven games — led to Kai Forbaths winning 26-yard field goal with 5 seconds remaining as the Redskins (4-11) snapped a six-game losing streak. The Eagles (9-6) will now be rooting for Indianapolis to beat the Cowboys (10-4) on Sunday. A Dallas win eliminates Philadelphia. A Dallas loss keeps a modicum of hope alive.Im not going to throw a party and watch it, receiver Jeremy Maclin said. Im going to watch it at home. The loss also knocked Philadelphia from the wild-card race and clinched a playoff berth for Detroit.Sanchez set an Eagles record with 37 completions in 50 attempts for a career-high 374 yards with two touchdowns to Riley Cooper, and tight end Zach Ertz set a franchise game record with 15 catches. But Sanchez lost a fumble for the third time this season and threw his 10th interception to put the Eagles NFL-leading turnover tally at 36.Robert Griffin III, back from his recent benching after a season-ending neck injury to Colt McCoy, went 16 for 23 for 220 yards with one interception for the Redskins to win in his first complete game in 13 months. Griffins only other win as a starter this season came when he was injured in the first quarter against Jacksonville in Week 2.First-year coach Jay Gruden, who has frequently been critical of Griffin, gave a glowing assessment, saying RG3 did an outstanding job of managing the football game. You would think a 3-11 football team would just quit, Griffin said. And were not. From the Eagles perspective, everything seemed to go wrong in pairs. Two wide-rights by rookie kicker Cody Parkey — doubling his number of misses this season — were converted into two 1-yard touchdown runs by Darrel Young. One of those Washington scoring drives included roughing-the-passer penalties by Brandon Graham and Vinny Curry in a span of four plays. The other drive featured a 55-yard over-the-shoulder grab by Jackson, the second 50-plus Griffin-to-Jackson connection in the game.I missed kicks and we lost the game, said Parkey, who has been battling a groin injury in his kicking leg. I dont think theres any words to really describe it. You let yourself down. You let your teammates down. The kicks had nothing to do with my groin.Curry also had a roughing-the-passer call on the Redskins winning drive. Earlier, a pass-interference call on Nate Allen in the end zone set up Youngs second scoring run. Philadelphia was flagged 13 times for 102 yards. Were beating ourselves with the penalties, defensive co-ordinator Bill Davis said. They stay on the field, and they get more shots on goal, and bad things happen in the NFL.The Eagles trailed 24-14 when Sanchez hit Cooper for a 16-yard score early in the fourth quarter, and Parkey kicked a 22-yard field goal with 6:17 to play. But, on their next possession — with the score tied and the season on the line — Sanchez made the games final mistake, the interception to rookie cornerback Bashaud Breeland at Washingtons 42.We wanted to spoil their Christmas and send them home, Griffin said, and we did our part.Notes: Jackson, cut by the Eagles after last season, caught four passes for 126 yards. ... Washington rookie LB Trent Murphy broke a bone in his right hand, and LT Trent Williams re-aggravated his sprained right shoulder.___AP NFL websites: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL__Follow Joseph White on Twitter: http://twitter.com/JGWhiteAP Bert Blyleven Twins Jersey . -- The Atlanta Braves are facing the possibility of losing another pitcher for the season after general manager Frank Wren said Saturday that Cory Gearrin has a serious injury to his right elbow. It didnt last, and the third-longest win streak in franchise history is still alive. The Bruins scored three times in the third period, the go-ahead goal by Shawn Thornton with 3:18 to play, and Boston won its 12th in a row, 4-2 over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night. The Bruins are two shy of the franchise mark of 14 straight set in the 1929-30 season. They also have the most points in the NHL with 103, two more than Western Conference-leading St. Louis. The Blues clinched a playoff berth as a result of Phoenixs loss. They managed their third-period rally despite the fact they were playing their second game in as many nights. "Tonight in my mind, it showed a lot of our character," Boston coach Claude Julien said. "We needed to show a lot of character there in the third to come back and we did. We did all the right things and we were determined to win and it showed." Jarome Iginla scored his 27th and 28th goals of the season for Boston, the second into an empty net in the final seconds. Oliver Ekman-Larsson had a spectacular goal to put Phoenix ahead 2-1 in the second period. Shane Doan scored the other Coyotes goal on a power play. The loss snapped Phoenixs three-game winning streak. Tuukka Rask, who did not play in Friday nights win at Colorado, had 30 saves for Boston. Phoenixs Mike Smith had 24. The loss and Dallas victory left the Coyotes two points ahead of the Stars for the final playoff spot in the West. Dallas has a game in hand. Phoenix had a 2-1 lead just 39 seconds into the second period thanks to Ekman-Larssons heroics. He took the puck from his own blue line, then evaded two would-be defenders, making a slick move that left Johnny Boychuk and Loui Eriksson in a heap. Rask deflected the first shot, but Ekman-Larsson knocked the rebound in as he sailed by the net. "I skated it up and I was looking for someone to pass to," Ekman-Larsson said, "but I didnt see anybody so I figured Id do it byy myself.ddddddddddddquot; It ended a streak of almost 411 minutes, more than 20 periods, that the Bruins had never trailed. It was the first time in seven games that Boston trailed. The Bruins turned up their trademark tough, physical play in the final period. "They try to beat you 1-on-1," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said, "and we didnt win enough of those 1-on-1 battles at the right times, and it came back to bite us." Boston tied it at 2 when Zdeno Charas shot deflected off Iginlas hip and into the net 3:48 into the third period. With much of the final period played in the Coyotes zone, Boston took the lead when Daniel Paille shot from a difficult angle to the left of the net, but it deflected off Thorntons stick and got past Smith for the score -- only the fifth goal of the season for the Bruins left wing. "Im glad it went in," Thornton said. "Everyone had a lot of chances tonight and it was a little bit frustrating for us until then. I mean, we were creating a lot of stuff, but nothing was going in. Happy we got rewarded for some hard work eventually." Boston took the lead in a hurry in the opening period. After Smith turned the puck over, Patrice Bergeron knocked it in from a crowd in front of the Coyotes net for his 22nd goal of the season, the puck slipping in just past the Coyotes goalies leg. Phoenix tied it when Brandon McMillans shot from close range bounced off Rask and Shane Doan scored to make it 1-1 with 8:15 left in the first. It was the first time in 11 games that the Bruins have allowed a first-period goal. Notes: The Bruins won their seventh straight road game. ... Boston is 16-4-4 against the Western Conference. ...
